Nothing beats a Homemade Fajita Seasoning and it truly couldn’t be easier to create. Add this seasoning mix to fajitas, quesadillas, soups and more!

Homemade Fajita Seasoning

Homemade Fajita Seasoning

I feel like the opening line of all my posts lately have just been ‘THIS IS SO MUCH BETTER THAN STORE BOUGHT’. Well, here I go again 😂 no but for real, it really couldn’t be more suited to a homemade fajita mix. Plus, I bet you’ve already got most, if not all of the ingredients in your pantry already!

The other great thing about a simple homemade fajita seasoning is that fact you can control what goes in. The recipe I provide offers a good baseline, but feel free to enhance any of your favourite flavours. With same token feel free to reduce any of the quantities, for example removing or reducing the cayenne pepper (less heat) or the salt for a salt free fajita seasoning.

Let’s take a look at what you’ll need:

Homemade Fajita Seasoning in a jar

Fajita Spice Mix Ingredients

  • Paprika
  • Cumin
  • Oregano
  • Onion Powder
  • Garlic Powder
  • Cayenne Pepper
  • Salt & Black Pepper

Okay, you’re looking at that list like ‘I’ve got ‘salt & pepper and that’s where it ends’

Well, think of it as an investment. Grab all the spices, make the seasoning in bulk and you’re set for a good while. The money you’d save on ready made fajita seasoning packets is crazy! Plus, you’re gonna get so much use out of this homemade version, trust me.

I have seen other recipes add sugar, but personally I don’t feel it needs it. However, do have a play around with that if you fancy 🙂

Fajita Marinade

Can I use a fajita spice mix for a marinade?

Absolutely! This spice mix works perfectly for a fajita marinade, or any Mexican meat marinade for that matter.

Here is the ‘formula’ I use for a chicken fajita marinade:

3 parts Olive Oil | 3 parts Fajita Seasoning | 2 parts Lime Juice

How to use Fajita Seasoning

Obviously this spice mix is perfect for homemade fajitas and chicken fajita nachos but…

What to use Fajita Seasoning for beside fajitas?

Surprisingly I actually developed this fajita spice mix when creating chicken quesadillas. So, besides quesadillas and fajitas, here’s what else this spice mix could be used for:

Can I use Fajita Seasoning for Tacos?

For all intents and purpose you can, yes. There are small differences however, so do check out my homemade taco seasoning if you’re making tacos!

How much Fajita Seasoning per pound of meat?

For 1lb/500g meat I use 3 tbsp fajita, which is what this recipe makes.

Can I use Fajita Seasoning for quesadillas?

Yup! Works perfectly. Check out my Chicken Quesadillas for more on that 😁

Alright, let’s take a look at the fajita seasoning quantities shall we?!
