If you have more of a savoury tooth than a sweet one, you are going to absolutely LOVE these savoury s’mores!
I know savoury s’mores sound like an odd concept, but they really make sense, I promise. Follow me…
Savoury S’mores
Truth be told, I don’t have much of a sweet tooth, but I’ve always had a soft spot in my heart for s’mores. Having said that, I’ve always been a cheese and biscuits for dessert kind of guy, so these savoury s’mores excited me just a touch more! You can make savoury s’mores in a variety of different ways, but here’s what I love to go for:
- Ritz crackers – Some of my all-time favourite crackers. The salty flavour they offer is just too good. Plus they make the perfect mini s’more.
- Brie – This melts perfectly, almost like a marshmallow. No need to remove the rind, just cut it into small chunks.
- Onion chutney – You’ll find jars of caramelised balsamic onion chutney in most supermarkets.
When it comes to cooking the s’mores, you could either bake them in the oven, air fry them or pop them under the grill/broiler. In all cases, cook them until the brie JUST begins to melt. Try to avoid completely melting it otherwise it just pours out into the tray/air fryer basket.
Savoury S’mores FAQ
Can I use a different chutney?
You can certainly experiment (I imagine apple & pear or even tomato chutney might work). But I recommend giving the caramelised onion chutney a go first.
Can I use jam?
I like using chutney because it offers a more savoury finish, but jam would give a lovely sweet/salty contrast, so feel free to experiment!
Can I use a different cheese?
You want something that goes gorgeously gooey like brie. Camembert would work perfectly!
Can I use a different cracker?
I love the flavour of Ritz crackers – plus they make perfect bite-sized s’mores. You could try different crackers though if you’d prefer.
Serving Savoury S’mores
These are perfect for any kind of gathering or even as appetizers before a meal. You’ll want to let them rest for 3-60 seconds before eating as the brie will be very hot and gooey. The longer they rest the firmer the brie will get.

How to make Savoury S’mores (Full Recipe & Video)
Savoury S'mores
Equipment
- Sharp Knife & Chopping Board
- Large Baking Tray (if using oven)
Ingredients
- 32 Ritz Crackers
- 160g / 5.6oz Brie, diced into small chunks (see notes)
- 80g / 2.8oz Caramelised Onion Chutney (see notes)
Instructions
- Top half of the crackers with chutney then top with a chunk of brie. Place a second cracker on top and gently push down so it sticks to the brie.
- Option 1 (bake): Preheat the oven to 180C/350F. Place the s'mores on a baking tray and bake for 2-3 minutes, or until the brie is JUST starting to melt.
- Option 2 (air fry): Spread the s'mores out in the air fryer and cook at 190C/375F for 2-3 minutes, or until the brie is JUST starting to melt. You may need to do this in batches.
- Option 3 (grill): Preheat the grill/broiler to high. Leave the cracker off of the top and place the topless s'mores on a baking tray. Place under the grill/broiler for 1-2 minutes, or until the brie JUST starts to melt. Add the second cracker on top after.
- Timings will vary for each method so just be vigilant. You don't want the brie to fully melt and completely leak out of the crackers.
