- 4 Bramley Apples, peeled & diced into small chunks (see notes)
- 4 tbsp Brown Sugar, or more to taste
- 1/2 Lemon, juice only
- 1/2 tbsp Salted Butter, or unsalted butter with a pinch of salt to taste
- pinch of Ground Cinnamon (optional)
Into a small/medium pot add apple, lemon juice and sugar. Stir to coat then turn on a low-medium heat.
Gently simmer for 20mins, or until the apple breaks down into a sauce, stirring frequently. Stir in butter and cinnamon, then taste test and adjust accordingly with sugar if needed.
Enjoy hot or cold!
a) Apples - You'll want a nice sharp apple like a Bramley, just to balance out the sugar. Granny smith also works nicely. You can use sweeter apples, you just won't need as much sugar, if any at all. In all cases just make sure they're peeled, cored and diced into small chunks.
b) Texture - I prefer my apple sauce to be quite chunky, but if you want it smooth you can use a potato masher right at the end to smooth it out.
c) Storage - Allow to cool and tightly cover in the fridge for 5-6days. If you want it warm again just reheat over low on the stove for a couple of mins. You can also freeze apple sauce, then thaw in the fridge.
