Course: Dinner, Main Course
Cuisine: Italian
Servings: 2 pizzas
Cost: £5 / $6
- 80g / 1/4 cup Honey
- 1 tsp Hot Sauce (I like Frank's or Cholula)
- 1/2 tsp Chilli Flakes (can adjust to taste)
- 2x Garlic Flatbreads (see notes)
- 130g / 1/2 cup Pizza Sauce, or as needed (see notes)
- 180g / 2 cups low-moisture Mozzarella, or as needed (see notes)
- 12 slices Pepperoni, or as needed
- sliced Black Olives & Fresh Jalapeños (optional)
Preheat the oven to 220C/430F. Keep the oven tray in there so it gets nice and hot (this will help the base of the pizza to crisp up).
Combine the honey, hot sauce and chilli flakes in a bowl and warm in the microwave (10-20 seconds or so). Stir then leave to cool. You can also do this on the stove in a small pot (just bring to a simmer then remove and cool). You can easily adjust the heat with chilli flakes/hot sauce if desired.
Spread the pizzas with pizza sauce then top with mozzarella, pepperoni, jalapeños and olives (add a few pieces of mozzarella over the pepperoni to prevent it curling).
Take the hot tray out of the oven, place the pizzas on then bake them in the oven for 8-10 minutes, or until lightly charring around the edges and golden/bubbly on top.
Drizzle with your preferred amount of hot honey (store leftovers) then tuck in and enjoy!
a) Hot Honey - I like to heat the honey then let it cool as it helps the chilli flakes infuse the honey more efficiently/quickly. You can adjust this to your preferred spiciness if you like. Just add in a dash more chilli flakes after it has cooled, or if you want more spice with the extra tangy flavour, add in a dash more hot sauce. Alternatively you can also just buy hot honey from the supermarket!
b) Flatbreads - You'll find them in most supermarkets, usually near the pizzas. They'll come in all shapes and sizes, but for reference the flatbreads I typically use are 210g/7.4oz and 24x18cm/9x7". Just use your best judgement to alter the quantities of toppings and time in the oven to suit whichever ones you get. In general, don't swamp the flatbread with loads of toppings otherwise the base might struggle to keep its structure.
c) Pizza Sauce - You can of course use my Homemade Pizza Sauce! If you're getting store-bought just try and get something nice and thick. If it's looking a little watery consider simmering in a pot to thicken it up (the less excess moisture on top of the pizza the better). Again, don't swamp the flatbread with sauce.
d) Mozzarella - I freshly grate a block but you can buy pre-grated. If you're using mozzarella in a brine just make sure you thoroughly pat it dry to remove as much moisture as possible.
e) Oven - I like to get the baking tray nice and before adding the pizzas. This will help crisp up the bottom and keep it sturdy.
f) Calories - Per pizza assuming you use all the honey.
