Course: Lunch
Cuisine: Halloween, Western
Servings: 2 mummies
Cost: £3.50 / $4
- 1 sheet of pre-rolled Puff Pastry (see notes)
- 4 tbsp Pizza Sauce (see notes)
- 100g / 3.5oz shredded Mozzarella
- 16 slices of Pepperoni, or as needed
- 2 Black Olives, halved
- 1 Egg, beaten for egg wash
Preheat the oven to 200C/400F.
Roll out the pastry and slice out two 23x10cm/9x4" ovals. Place on a large baking tray lined with baking/parchment paper. Top with pizza sauce, mozzarella and pepperoni, saving some room for two eyes at the top.
Slice the leftover pastry into thin strips (different sizes are fine) and lay them over the pizza, overlapping now and then. Make sure you press in the very edges of the strips to secure them.
Lightly dab with egg wash then bake in the oven for 15-20 mins until deep golden and crisp (they'll crisp slightly more as they cool). Enjoy!
a) Pastry - For reference, 1 sheet of pastry is 320g/11oz and 14"x9" (35.5cmx22cm). I like an oval shape, but realistically you can do any shape you fancy! Just make sure you've got enough pastry left over to wrap the mummies.
b) Pizza Sauce - I use Homemade Pizza Sauce, but you could use store-bought or even marinara sauce. Just make sure it's somewhat thick so it doesn't make the pastry soggy.
c) Toppings - I love pepperoni, but you could use a different topping. Just make sure the meat is cooked. I'd also fry off the veg, just so it doesn't leak out too much water as it cooks and makes the pastry soggy.
